Unique articling experience
In an effort to broaden exposure to union side labour law, our students have in the past spent a portion of their articling tenure working directly for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. For example, one year our student spent two blocks of six weeks each working at OPSEU.
OPSEU represents some 110,000 members who work directly for the provincial government or in a variety of broader public sector operations (such as hospitals, community colleges and universities, social services agencies and regulatory agencies).
During periods at OPSEU, the student work under the supervision of the Union's General Counsel. This unique position affords students the opportunity to experience the nature of practice as an "in-house" lawyer with a trade union. Coupling experience within both a union and a union side labour law firm ensures that our student receives the broadest possible learning in the field of labour law.
It has not yet been determined if this opportunity will be available for the next articling year.
