Ryder
Wright Blair & Holmes LLP currently hires one articling student
each year. We are committed to ensuring that our student receives an
exceptional articling experience.
Excellent learning opportunity
- Within
our small firm environment, our student is given the opportunity to
work with each of the firm’s 8 lawyers. This ensures that he
or she has exposure to all of the different areas of law in which we
practice and to the differing styles of practice of a variety of
lawyers.
- RWBH
practices virtually exclusively in the areas of union-side labour
and employee-side employment law, including labour and employment
related matters such as human rights, professional discipline,
employment standards and insured benefits. The firm also does some
non-labour administrative law and civil litigation.
- RWBH
is recognized for its commitment to justice in labour practices, and
a student with a passion for the labour movement and social justice
will find the environment highly motivating.
- We
ensure that while articling at RWBH, our student is exposed to all
aspects of the practice of union side labour law, including the
opportunity to attend and participate in the preparation for
grievance and labour board hearings.
- Our
articling students are represented by CUPE Local 1281, and the terms
and conditions of employment for the student are determined by a
collective agreement.
- RWBH
is committed to being an equal opportunity employer.
- We
make every effort to hire from our articling student body when we
have openings for lawyers and over half of our lawyers articled with
the firm (or predecessors). Where we are unable to hire our
students ourselves, we assist the student in finding a placement in
the labour law field. Virtually all of our students who have not
been hired by RWBH have found work in the field.
